Artist’s Statement:
My work is abstract and results from a creative process that is primarily, but by no means exclusively, intuitive. I tend to work on several paintings at a time, often revisiting them over periods of weeks, months or even years. It is my intention to interrogate the boundaries and nature of painting as an interaction and intersection of process, idea, agency and material. I deliberately work within the limitations of paint, surface and edge as this apparently finite space seems, paradoxically perhaps, to offer an infinite possibility.
I look to evoke what I can only describe as a sense of positioning, placement, or locating in each work and to be somehow surprised by it. Visual propositions and juxtapositions are sought and explored that are often ambiguous, sometimes awkward and hopefully unexpected. I believe that abstraction and process can enact dramas that speak to our shared experiences; our memories of place, land and mind-scapes that might be real or imagined. This hopefully opens a dialogue between the physical presence of the work and its proposed spatiality that is provisional and conditional, rather than dogmatic.

Bristol School of Art: Tutor on several undergraduate programmes and Course Leader for: Foundation Art & Design (UAL); FdA Creative Practices and BA (Hons) Fine Art.
